Set Me Free is a family drama; think CODA meets Ladybird with a dash of Ticket to Paradise. When Alexandra, a secular medical student falls in love with Eli, an attractive young rabbi, it’s anybody’s guess whether she’s in love with him or his lifestyle. Alexandra’s mother Robin a.k.a. “Dr. Rob,” is a psychotherapist who hosts a (nationally syndicated) radio call-in show, and she is hell-bent on putting a stop to the relationship, even if it means risking her celebrity status and professional credibility as a counselor who preaches, of all things, complete acceptance of adult children.
